In 2018, Lune Valley Swimming Pool officially reopened as a community run swimming pool in the heart of Hornby. Over the past 5 years it has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, from Covid-19 and the rise in energy costs, to expanding the number of opportunities we can offer to the community and having over 600 people swim with us every week!

On Friday the 20th of October we invited our local MP's, local councillors, members of the Parish Council and important members of the community to celebrate our 5th anniversary.

​

With lots of sparkling fizz and cake, we discussed all of the brilliant achievements we have had over the past 5 years. With a speech from our Chair of Trustees, Phil Mugford, it was highlighted that during the year of 2022 we had 28k swims compared with the 12k swims per annum pre Covid.

​

Currently, we have just over 260 children swimming with us in our swimming lessons as well as 7 local primary schools, including one faith school, one educational and special needs school and one alternative provision secondary school attending swimming lessons every week.

​

We also have one adult residential centre, multiple autism support groups, GP referrals, local dive clubs, cubs and scout groups and youth groups that use us on a regular basis too!

​

In terms of funding, we received a £30,000 grant from the National Lottery Fund during Covid-19 to help get us a new boiler, install a CCTV system that enables parents to watch their children during swimming lessons from the foyer area and helped towards salary costs.

​

We most recently received a £17,000 grant from the Swimming Pool Sustainability fund which will help towards increased utility and chemical costings. We have also received £500 from the local 3R Foundation Charity for the purchase of new equipment and we are due to receive funding at the end of November from the Co-op Local Community Fund which will go towards building improvements.

We have held numerous fundraising over the last year from our Swim the Lune Sponsored Swim, Splash Splash Party Nights, Coffee Morning which have all been successful!

​

We are currently in the process of applying for additional funding which will help us improve our energy efficiency to reduce running costs and ensure that the pool is accessible and available for generations to come in the future.
